CPSD

The Collaboration to Promote Self-Determination (http://thecpsd.org) is an advocacy network of 21 national disability organizations working to ensure all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities can become employed, live independently and in an inclusive community, and rise out of poverty.

CPSD presumes competence in the ability of all people with significant disabilities to work and live independently in fully integrated settings, and to contribute meaningfully to their communities. The coalition believes that public funds should be focused entirely on helping people to become self-sufficient, productive members of society through integrated employment at competitive wages with commensurate benefits.

Promoting Policy Reform

CPSD promotes policy reform aimed at empowering individuals with complex intellectual and developmental disabilities by:

  • Providing opportunities for meaningful engagement in the areas of education, employment, social interaction and community engagement.
  • Eliminating current obstacles and creating viable incentives to empower individuals to live and work in integrated settings, generate income and save for their future.
  • Customizing public supports based on the unique needs of the individual throughout their lifespan, through self-direction and individual budgeting to promote their lives as productive citizens within their communities.
